
The European Union has recently updated ( amends Annex XVII to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006) its regulations regarding Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4), Decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5), and Dodecamethylcyclohexasiloxane (D6). According to the new rules, these substances will be heavily restricted starting from June 6, 2026.
Specifically, D4, D5, and D6 cannot be placed on the market:
- As a substance on its own.
- As a constituent of other substances.
- In mixtures, in a concentration equal to or greater than 0.1% by weight.
The above substances have been identified as having very Persistent and very Bioaccumulative (vPvB) properties, with D4 also being recognized for its Persistent, Bioaccumulative, and Toxic (PBT) properties.
